Last week in between writing for several different clients, my husband and I set to work moving the day lillies.
What should have been a twenty minute job turned into a 2 day project. The lillies had been in the same spot for more than 2 years... slowly growing the largest root system I'd ever seen... spreading rich and thick ...and, unfortunately, mired in chokeweed grass.
The poor things were slowly getting the very life choked out of them.
You see, I'd been so busy the past 2 years building my business, there had been little time to take care of things like weeding the garden and nurturing my plants giving them room to grow.
Life can be a lot like that. You can get so buried in the details you forget to give yourself room to grow and flourish ...and sometimes, the wrong elements can move in to slowly suffocate your hopes, dreams and what you once thought was the lifestyle you always wanted.
Don't get me wrong --- when you really apply yourself in the right situation, you can work super hard for a two year period and the results can be phenomenal --- giving you a lifestyle even more wonderful than you'd ever hoped or dreamed for.
I've been lucky. This is exactly how my life is shaping up.
My next goal is to take my monthly income to the 20k/month level and I'm right on target to do it. I'm also working less, yet earning more.
A friend of mine has not been so lucky.
She buried herself in the wrong situation, determined to be the best in her field working in a major corporation, climbing the ladder hoping to shorten the distance from entry level to the top of the feedchain in 5 years or less.
She dug in deep, immersed in the details, with stunning performance on the job.
The company just went through some major layoffs.
Did all her hard work and efforts pay off?
I bet you already know where this is heading... and if you guessed right, you know she is now dusting off her resume preparing for the unemployment line with a 2 week severance check in hand and a pat on the back thanking her for her accomplishments these past 4 years.
During those 4 years she worked 10 to 12 hour days, tirelessly, passionately building someone else's dreams. She never had time to add any courses to her schedule, so needless to say, on paper it looks like there was little advancement for her during that 4-year period.
What did she learn from the experience?
For one thing, she still hasn't learned to go to work on her own dreams. Instead, like I said... she's dusting off her resume and getting ready to go out and add to the success of yet another company.
I can empathize with her. There once was a time I would have done the same...
It took me more than 20 years to "wake up" and take time to smell the roses.
My Advice: work harder on yourself than you do on your job. It will take you a whole lot further faster.
PS: the transplanting turned out great. The lillies are now flourishing in their new location and it looks like this year my flower gardens will be truly beautiful!

Dead Birds And Other Things
Our 4-year-old came running into the house yesterday, totally hyped up...
"Mom! Dad! Look what I found!"
Nestled in the palms of his two small hands was a dead morning dove he had found in the flower garden. What was unusual about the bird - no broken neck (so we assume it didn't fly into anything) - no outward signs of sores or abrasions (we assume it didn't fly into traffic) - no unusual markings, moltings or anything else.
In fact, other than being stone cold stiff and dead, on first appearance it looked peacefully asleep and in perfect health.
Since we haven't sprayed any dangerous chemicals, even that possibility was out - maybe?
As the editor for the local Healthy Families bi-monthly newsletter in our area, I'm often more "in the loop" than most regarding health news and information in our region. What many people don't realize is that dead birds may be a sign that West Nile virus is circulating between birds and the mosquitoes in an area. Over 130 species of birds are known to have been infected with West Nile virus, though not all infected birds will die.
The Center For Disease Control (CDC) seeks everyone's help for their communities by reporting dead birds as one measure to monitor and track the spread of West Nile Virus.
"By reporting dead birds to state and local health departments, you can play an important role in monitoring West Nile virus. State and local agencies have different policies for collecting and testing birds, so check the Links to State and Local Government Sites page to find information about reporting dead birds in your area. Speaking of West Nile Virus, did you know 777 cases were reported last year in California alone (23 deaths)?
Sidenote: According to a CNN report, West Nile virus first arrived in 1999 in New York. Last year there were 2,470 cases and 88 deaths. The highest number of U.S. cases came in 2003, when 9,682 people were infected and 264 died.
Mosquitoes are reported to be the culprit spreading this virus (and more).
Needless to say, large and powerful companies are already gearing up for sales of their repellents this year ...and DEET is still on the list of the CDCs top repellents. When I was a Purchasing Agent for one Ministry in Canada, DEET was a banned substance on my list of approved repellents (although it was readily available for public use ...just not for use by government workers in the field - go figure).
Sidenote: DEET was developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1946 and has been registered with the Environmental Protection Agency as an approved active ingredient since 1957.
Personally, I don't like slapping any chemicals on my skin. I know too well the damage toxins can do and how quickly they can be absorbed by the skin. This year, the CDC has finally broadened their list of approved repellents to include one more chemical (picaridin) and now, a natural alternative (oil of lemon eucalyptus).
Here's something I prefer, which may surprise a few people: Purifying Mist
But that's a room deodorizer, you say?
Yes, it sure is. In fact it's quite effective as both a room deodorizer AND an odor eliminator, and yet it also has a main ingredient that I've found can be quite effective as a mosquito repellent: grapefruit seed extract.
Go ahead --- take a bottle on your next camping trip and test it out.
In my humble opinion, it's a far safer alternative to smearing chemicals all over the skin.

Out the house I dash, and I'm greeted by this picture:
Somehow he had managed to get up on the propane tank (wearing only his t-shirt, by the way) and on trying to slide off, got hung up by the back of his shirt.
Yes, of course I was concerned. And yet, can any mother resist getting a picture of this for the keepsake scrapbook? To be honest, neither my husband nor I could resist laughing. It was really a comical site. I snapped the pic just before his Dad showed up to help him down.
All part of the joys working full time from home.
This one will be fun to share with his future girlfriends. hehehe

Oh My GOSH - Who Knew They Hid So Much?
Oh my GOSH!
Last week I was hired to write the "Medical Report - What Doctor's Won't Tell You" ...and the more research I did for the document, the more sickened I became.
The cover-ups and borderline lies being created for some drugs on the market would make you absolutely SICK ... if you knew about them.
But there's the problem --- millions upon millions of people have absolutely no clue.
And here's worse news.
Millions of doctors also have no clue --- and it's not their fault!
I'm still trying to melt down the information (and believe me, there's TONS of it) to pull together a sharp, consice, accurate report that GojiTeam can hand out to their visitors --- and the hardest part about this project is all the information I have to leave out because of space limitations. This entire "hot bed" of information really deserves an entire BOOK on the subject.
Maybe I'll keep all the notes I've compiled, and who knows... I may have one of the most shocking books the world has ever seen another year from now.

How Would You Like To Make Money Writing?
Can you make a living through writing?
I remember the scene with my mother so well. We were standing in her kitchen when I told her in my 14 year old "wise" voice ... "Mom. I want to be a writer."
Keep in mind, 14 years old was a tough age for some girls in those days. It was the "in between stage" ... not quite old enough for dating and boys ... not young enough to be content playing with dolls, watching cartoons, or whatever else younger children did to amuse themselves back then.
The dramatic reaction my mother had to the statement can only be described as horified.
She whipped around from putting groceries in the fridge and stated emphatically, "You don't want to do that! Writers NEVER make any money! You'll be starving broke all your life."
Gee. Thanks Mom.
So I followed my parents plan for me. I entered into the Accounting field like a good little girl. Since my math marks in school were so high, they figured this would be the best move for me, that I'd make my fortunes on the path of analyzing historical numbers for various companies in stale office environments with little to no stimulation for that creative right-brain that kept complaining to me every night I fell in bed.
Was I passionate about accounting? Absolutely not.
Did I make good money in it? Definitely not.
I suppose I could have, if I were passionate about it and followed the course past the 4th level CGA program and graduated in a field where the money was flowing well, but I switched to the purchasing field where more of my right-brain thinking could be put into play.
Now, here it is, 30 years since that fateful conversation with my Mom, and I'm having my first $10 Grand month ...with many more ahead for me... and earning most of it how? WRITING!
And here's an interesting point.
I'm also looking for an apprentice, because I have so much work lined up that I can't even keep up with it all ... writing clients have been lining up at the door, and I'm even having trouble keeping up with the demand for my small home business that I built from scratch a little over 12 months ago.
Thank the lucky stars for Goji Juice. I wouldn't be able to keep up with all the demands without that sweet nectar pulling me through the 10 to 14 hour days. It takes a great deal of energy to produce killer copy for some of my clients ...and very little effort for other clients... and yet, I'm LOVING every minute of it, doing what I've had a passion for all my life.
Can you make money writing? Contrary to what my Mom believed way back then - YES!

How do you stack up with the competition?
If you are a full time at home worker, you know you're competing with a TON of other products and services around the world.
"By one estimate, 700 new products are introduced every day. Last year, 26,893 new food and household products materialized on store shelves around the world, including 115 deodorants, 187 breakfast cereals and 303 women's fragrances. In all, 2 million brands vie for attention."
For instance, I have one website converting extremely well for our topselling Goji Juice - a fantastic drink I have every single day - from FREE traffic. In fact, I get better sales from my free search engine traffic than I do from my PPC traffic. (Go figure?)
Another website, which I won't link to here since it's going through some MAJOR overhauling, is doing poorly in both search engines and elsewhere. (It needs a TON of work to fix!)
And yet, I've only just begun my exploration into blogs and bloggings as a means of getting more traffic to all of my websites. Will it prove to be a useful marketing method? Or just another HUGE investment in time that leads to few, if any sales?
Then, of course, I do the free News Release thing. (This has resulted in more than a few reporters contacting me.)
And also the link exchange thing.
Oh, and I recently found a super cool offline media auction thing where I might play with a few magazine ad slicks...
But, when you consider the numbers of new products, stacked against all those that already exist, competition is fierce --- agreed?
Sure, I have over 200 different "guerrilla marketing" techniques that I employ for marketing everything I do ...and here's the MOST surprising thing.
The majority of all my income comes through REFERRAL marketing.
Yes! Even my copywriting services (which are now adding up to $10,000 a month and more) ... every single job I've done for website content and for related writing services has come from a personal referral of one kind or another (such as customer follow-up autoresponder series, prospecting series, flash movie choreography and content, etc., etc. ...mostly for Network Marketing clients yet also a few from outside the industry).
Even our retail sales through the business my husband and I own jointly ...sales from referrals add up to more than 45% of our income.
If you're not using referral marketing in one form or another, you might want to reconsider. Just imagine how much money you could be walking away from.
Uh-oh... I smell food cooking. My wonderful husband must be doing dinner for us tonight. Gotta run.

4 Year Olds And Their Imagination
Ever since the tornado blew through our front yard and whipped away a bunch of our little guy's toys, I've been trying to help him with the dreams he's been having.
Last night he shared a bad dream with me...
"Mommy, you and Daddy were both gone. And the car was gone and the truck was gone, and I woke up alone....
I woke up and ran downstairs but you weren't there ... and neither was Daddy.
So I runned back upstairs and looked out the window and there was the big tornado right where the truck and car was 'spose to be, and stuff was flying all around... and then the mean blue lady came up the stairs and she was carrying the bad flowers --- the flowers that eat you ... and I was so scared."
Now, I know where he got the tornado idea...
But the blue lady?
And the flowers that eat you?
He continued with, "Mommy, you always have good dreams. I like your dreams. But me and Daddy always have bad dreams."
To which I answered, "Well, I have good dreams because I put good thoughts in my head and I think of nice things, and nice people, and how beautiful the world is."
"You sure have a good 'magination, Mommy."
Okay... not much I could say on that point.

No-Brainer Ways To Make M-o-n-e-y Fast
Fourteen months ago they laughed at me when I said I'd be making almost $10G per month ...they're not laughing now. Even my banker is raising her eyebrows wonder...
Now they're all haunting me with questions on how the heck I did it. What do you need to do it?
The first thing I tell them is - you need patience.
The second thing you need - focus.
The third, and probably most important, you need - passion.
Missing any single one of the above ingredients, forget it. Walk away now because frankly, your odds of doing what I did are slim to none... and I'm not saying it because I'm great or have any super sizzling skills (although some say my copy is pretty good).
For example, here's a no-brainer way of making money that I taught someone else just a few weeks ago and she's already on her way to getting her first $1,000 check.
Take a good company with a super hot sizzle product like goji juice.
Sign up as an M.E. and purchase 5 cases of the juice.
Keep 2 cases for your personal use... hand out single bottles from the other 3 cases to every single person you know, both potential business builders AND potential customers.
Follow up with every single person you gave a bottle to within 2 to 3 days.
Those who like the juice, give two options:
- Either sign up as a customer on autoship to get 2 to 4 bottles a month coming to your home.
- Or if you want to make money, sign up like I did with 5 cases and do exactly what I did for you.
Because the juice tastes absolutely awesome, you'll find you get a fairly high percentage of customers and/or M.E.s going for it. When they start noticing the changes in their bodies, you'll probably see a lot of them ordering a whole lot more than just the 1 case (4 bottles) they need to qualify for income each month... and/or the standing order for 2 bottles or 1 case per month... but that's a whole other story.
Let's say within one week, 3 people sign up as MEs buying 5 cases each... here's what your income looks like so far;
You earned $80 from your own purchase of 5 cases, you earned $60 Fast Start Bonus for your 3 new ME's purchases... bringing you a grand total so far of $140 ...now add in your customer income ($20/case)... and all you did is give out 12 bottles of juice. (Oh, and by the way, your 3 new MEs just made $80 each, too.)
Now... help your 3 new MEs do the same... and let's say each of them find 3 new MEs the next week.
Here's what things are looking like for you now: For just ONE of your new MEs add another $90 in Fast Start bonus income to your $140 and you have $230 for a couple hours work.... oh, and don't forget the percentage for all customer sales ($20/case) and a boost in point volume which qualified you for the first advancement bonus $150 ... add that on too.
So if you were successful helping all 3 of your 3 MEs get their 3, you have at the least, $410 coming in... probably more from straight customer sales, plus a small income over-ride for 4 of each of their cases. If as a team, you and your team did it in one week, that's a pretty good start, right?
Now, here's where things get interesting...
Picture them helping their 3 MEs get their 3... you're already getting $410, and since the fast start goes 5 levels deep and you get $10 Fast Start for each and every one of the new MEs ... let's do the math: 9 x 3 x $10 = $270 ... add that to your $410 and you get ... $680 + retail commissions, + plus retail commission overrides ...
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, now you've qualified to receive your next level advancement bonus, so add another $300... and what have you got? A total of $980 + retail commissions + retail commission overrides.
Let's say a few people say they don't want goji juice... great! Ask them for the empty bottle back. Send the empty bottles back for a full refund, deduct the income you would have received for those empties ($20 for every 4 bottles you return), and you've still got a fair chunk of change coming.
Let's take it one step further... your new MEs give you back one bottle when their order comes in... now you have more bottles to give away and repeat the whole process without adding one penny of extra cost to your bottom line.

Let's face it, when you have a good product with a solid company like the goji juice company I'm referring to, over time the income just keeps adding up --- 5 levels deep on the fast start bonuses mentioned above and 10 levels deep on standard trimax commissions. The longer you do it, the more you help people you introduce it to, and the stronger your overall support and dedication to your business... the more you make.
It's not a lottery - not get rich quick (for most) - totally legitimate (the product is incredible) - and frankly, a no-brainer for almost everyone and anyone if they have:
- patience,
- focus,
- and above all ... PASSION.
14 months ago, my husband and I were worried about losing our house, had run out of gas to heat our home, had an expensive 4-year-old little boy to worry about, and had maxed out every single credit card owing to the injury my husband got on the job which resulted in absolutely no income coming into our home - no unemployment benefits - no disability pay - no welfare support - nothing.
I turned it completely around within 14 months.
Not everyone can do what I do... but just about anyone can do what I taught the lady I'm referring to in the above example.
It's a no-brainer, really.
But a lot depends on how bad you want to make things happen for you.

Now they're all haunting me with questions on how the heck I did it. What do you need to do it?
The first thing I tell them is - you need patience.
The second thing you need - focus.
The third, and probably most important, you need - passion.
Missing any single one of the above ingredients, forget it. Walk away now because frankly, your odds of doing what I did are slim to none... and I'm not saying it because I'm great or have any super sizzling skills (although some say my copy is pretty good).
For example, here's a no-brainer way of making money that I taught someone else just a few weeks ago and she's already on her way to getting her first $1,000 check.
Take a good company with a super hot sizzle product like goji juice.
Sign up as an M.E. and purchase 5 cases of the juice.
Keep 2 cases for your personal use... hand out single bottles from the other 3 cases to every single person you know, both potential business builders AND potential customers.
Follow up with every single person you gave a bottle to within 2 to 3 days.
Those who like the juice, give two options:
- Either sign up as a customer on autoship to get 2 to 4 bottles a month coming to your home.
- Or if you want to make money, sign up like I did with 5 cases and do exactly what I did for you.
Because the juice tastes absolutely awesome, you'll find you get a fairly high percentage of customers and/or M.E.s going for it. When they start noticing the changes in their bodies, you'll probably see a lot of them ordering a whole lot more than just the 1 case (4 bottles) they need to qualify for income each month... and/or the standing order for 2 bottles or 1 case per month... but that's a whole other story.
Let's say within one week, 3 people sign up as MEs buying 5 cases each... here's what your income looks like so far;
You earned $80 from your own purchase of 5 cases, you earned $60 Fast Start Bonus for your 3 new ME's purchases... bringing you a grand total so far of $140 ...now add in your customer income ($20/case)... and all you did is give out 12 bottles of juice. (Oh, and by the way, your 3 new MEs just made $80 each, too.)
Now... help your 3 new MEs do the same... and let's say each of them find 3 new MEs the next week.
Here's what things are looking like for you now: For just ONE of your new MEs add another $90 in Fast Start bonus income to your $140 and you have $230 for a couple hours work.... oh, and don't forget the percentage for all customer sales ($20/case) and a boost in point volume which qualified you for the first advancement bonus $150 ... add that on too.
So if you were successful helping all 3 of your 3 MEs get their 3, you have at the least, $410 coming in... probably more from straight customer sales, plus a small income over-ride for 4 of each of their cases. If as a team, you and your team did it in one week, that's a pretty good start, right?
Now, here's where things get interesting...
Picture them helping their 3 MEs get their 3... you're already getting $410, and since the fast start goes 5 levels deep and you get $10 Fast Start for each and every one of the new MEs ... let's do the math: 9 x 3 x $10 = $270 ... add that to your $410 and you get ... $680 + retail commissions, + plus retail commission overrides ...
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, now you've qualified to receive your next level advancement bonus, so add another $300... and what have you got? A total of $980 + retail commissions + retail commission overrides.
Let's say a few people say they don't want goji juice... great! Ask them for the empty bottle back. Send the empty bottles back for a full refund, deduct the income you would have received for those empties ($20 for every 4 bottles you return), and you've still got a fair chunk of change coming.
Let's take it one step further... your new MEs give you back one bottle when their order comes in... now you have more bottles to give away and repeat the whole process without adding one penny of extra cost to your bottom line.

Busier Than A One-Armed...
Okay... the pace is picking up. Our FL Business is absolutely exploding with the massive global expansion underway, plus my copywriting clients are sending me TONS of extra work - just got a new $10,000 contract --- long story.
Then my girlfriend in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) writes me and tells me HER FL business is also growing... and she's got several new customers LINING UP who can't wait to try the JUICE! (Wow --- this is so powerful. If you haven't had a taste yet, you're missing out on the best of the best here, folks!)

Cease and Desist - To Be or Not To Be?
Have you ever had a ton of challenges hit you straight on all at once? You know the kind I mean... things that are a little bit out of the ordinary, that normally don't happen at all... when all of a sudden, wham... they all pile up and flood down you in one big long torrent... ??
The weekend started out that way for me.
Doing some casual research online I discovered a site that not only had stolen word-for-word content from one of my retail sites (that happened to be converting extremely well by the way) but he also stole the source code to stream some of the flash audios directly from my server.
Talk about arrogance!
I did the usual things... copied his source code for "evidence" ...took screen shots of his page with my content and my audios on it ...then disabled/redirected the audio drivers as a temporary measure.
I'm now debating on sending out a cease and desist order... or should I let the guy puzzle over why his pages aren't loading properly anymore? Maybe I should just let him stew for awhile?
I'm curious... What would you do given the same situation?
I'll let you know in a couple days what I decide. Meanwhile comments and feedback are welcome. I'd really like to know how others feel about these little incidents that appear to be getting worse on the Net as some people appear to get lazier and lazier about writing and developing their own content.
